We have open sourced the underlying simulation library. However, the Software Delivery Simulator combines this simulation library with a proprietary diagram library, so can’t be open sourced (at this time).

No. The modeling and simulation is done in a code-free user interface. Business process modeling knowledge can be helpful, but is not necessary.

Yes and no. If you have a deep knowledge of simulation engineering, then the Software Delivery Simulator can be viewed as having the following benefits and drawbacks.

Software Delivery Simulator Benefits:

• Verified and tested simulation constructions
  • We handle the verification, you handle the validation
• More intuitive knowledge capture and improved communication of results, via the graphical user interface
• Easier reuse of templates and patterns for modeling software delivery
• High simulation environment portability (web browser vs. a local IDE)
• Baked-in best practices around simulation construction

Software Delivery Simulator Drawbacks:

• Reduced (massively) flexibility of simulations
• Limited ability to work on, or run, simulations offline
• Limitations to customization and extensibility
• Inability to use CLI utilities to wrap, control, and orchestrate simulation work
• Less performant simulation execution (in some cases)
• Lack of low-level explainability

The application itself can present well in screenshares and presentations, but you can also generate image files. We may add additional export formats in the future.

No. Not at this time.

No. The simulator uses common, open formats for import and export. However, automation and integration with external tools is not directly supported.

Discrete event. This formalism can encapsulate discrete time and continuous time (with numerical methods) formalisms. If you have never heard of these before, that is not a problem. Using the simulator does not require working knowledge of these formalisms.
